With lots of regrets, the ACC Contern had to decide during the month of May 2016 to cancel this year's edition of the « Gala Tour de France », mostly for financial and schedule reasons, but immediately started working on a 18th edition of the criterium in 2017.

In addition, the ACC Contern decided to organize the 2016 Luxemburg National road-racing championships from June 24 to 26th, an event for which a promoter still had to be found. The municipality of Manternach, who is a long-time partner of the ACC Contern, proposed to host the races on their roads and, with our main sponsor having his headquarters just e few kilometres away, we didn't hesitate too long: it is a real challenge to organize such a big event in less than two months, but we couldn't afford not to support an organization that is so important for our home cycling. Seeing the extraordinary performances of our riders in international events, we are sure that there will great sports in Berbourg and when the National anthem will arise in honour of the winners in the different categories, we will also see it as a tribute to our deceased former president Marcel Gilles, the instigator of a Grand-prix OST that is now hosted in Bech but, several years ago, used to take place on the very same roads than theses National Championships.
