Portrait of François Faber

88th Grand-prix François Faber - 30.05.2010 - Contern

Riders:

As a regional race, the Grand-prix François Faber 2009 will see mostly Luxemburgish riders at the start, as well as those from the border regions. But the rules allow us to invite three foreign teams to this race.

Of course, the big favourites for the 88th edition come from the Continental Team Differdange, the squad that has completely dominated last year.

Defending champion Christian Poos is in very good form and he has proven it last week-end with a second place in the Cologne Classics. Poos was clearly the strongest last year, during the 87th edition, but the course involved a lot more climbing than this year. The profile of the new course could well suit Jempy Drucker, the rider who is licensed at the ACC Contern and surely will be very motivated with the race passing only a few hundred meters past his home village of Sandweiler. In addition, Jempy is in great form as shows his victory in the prologue of the Flèche du Sud. It will be interesting to see which riders Differdange is going to line up in the Faber 2010, since the team also participates the same week-end in the Boucles de l'Aulne and the Grand-prix de Plumelec, where Cohnen, Dressler and Harbonnier among others are on the start list.

From Belgium, the teams of Lotto-Predictor VC Ardennes and Veranda Willems CC Chevigny have as a goal to develop young riders and help them to get a professionnal contract in the big teams with the same names. They might well show up in Contern with some strong riders and match for the win.

CS Thionvillois will come to Contern with some riders that are used to finish on the podium places in the Lorraine region. There will be Pascal Quievreux, plus Jean-Cédric Andreoli who was a few days ago second in a race in Garche, while his team-mate Julien Jaillard placed in 5th position there, just ahead of Pascal Triebel. Frédéric Beck has won in Neunkirchen, whereas Joaquim Bornemann finished 5th overall and 2nd best young rider in the Tour de l'Est Parisien, a four-day stage race near the capital of France.

Team Schwalbe Trier is composed by young and talented riders from in and around Trier and they will be led by Andre Benoit. The young German finished 3rd and best young rider at the race in Kayl and, on a more international level, he finished 27th of the Omloop van het Waasland and 32nd at the Roue Tourangelle, two races for professionnal riders. Robin Jose was a good junior rider when he finished among others 3rd of a stage in the Münsterland-tour, 8th overall at the Trofeo Karlsberg and 3rd of the three-day stage race in Francfort won recently by Luxemburgish rider Bob Jungels. Last year, for his first season in the elite and U23 category, he took two wins on regional level. The team will be completed by Andreas Fliessgarten, champion of Hessen in 2008, Michael Bittner, Benjamin Höber, Falk Putzke, Markus Zingen and MTB rider Marcus Wilmes.

Of course, the ACC Contern hopes for a strong line-up of Luxemburgish riders in our "Doyenne", the oldest of all the road-races in Luxembourg.
