14th edition of the Gala Tour de France on July 29, 2010 in the avenue de la Liberté !
In a meeting between all the concerned parties, it has been decided that the 14th edition of the Gala Tour de France, one of the most reknowned and popular events in Luxemburg, should take place this year on Thursday, July 29, 2010, on the former course in the avenue de la Liberté, around the Arcelor-Mittal headquarters.
The course that was used in the two previous years in fact doesn't seem appropriate to welcome such massive crowds as showed up in the last edition (more than 40.000 people), both in terms of safety and logistics. Another solution would habe been a completely new course on and around the Place du Glacis, the biggest place in town, but it failed to be realistic due to traffic works and traffic density in this area. That's why the organizers have decided together with the representatives of Luxemburg-town, to move back again on their former course in the avenue the la Liberty, with the start and finish area being just like in the past next to the place des Martyrs, also known as « Rousegärtchen ».
The course is 1700 metres long and due to the traffic density, it will only be closed and available for racing
after 19.00 o'clock. Support acts for the main event will also be programmed around the course, but the shedule shall be restricted compared to previous years.
The riders of the 14th Gala Tour de France will be presented to the public as of 19.00 o'clock in a show named « Sport meets fashion ». The race itself will take place between 19.30 and 21.30 o'clock and will be followed by the award ceremony on the official podium.
