Kim Kirchen honoured by the sports press and the municipality of Niederanven.

In December 2007, Kim Kirchen was awarded best Luxemburgish sportman of the year 2007 by the ALPS, the association of the Luxemburish sports press. Other main contenders in this award were also cyclists of the ACC Contern: Andy and Frank Schleck. But against the 2nd place overall at the Giro of the younger Schleck or for example the 4th rank at the world road championships of his brother Frank, it was mainly the 7th place overall in the Tour de France that worked in favour of Kim Kirchen, the best place realized by a Luxemburgish rider since 50 years. Second places in a stage at the Grande-Boucle, Tirreno Adriatico or the Tour de Suisse also stood on the account of Kirchen in the tight award.

In January 2008, the municipality of Niederanven has invited to a sympathic reception to hounour "their" sportsman of the year. A delegation of the ACC Contern and numerous other guests listened to the speeches of the mayor, Mr. Raymond Weydert and of the president of the "Kim Kirchen Fanclub" Jean Schiltz. After that, Kim presented himself his new jersey for the 2008 season, the one of Team High Road.
