September - December 2007: Cyclo-cross season

30.12.2007 Superprestige Diegem (U23)

winner

Thijs Van Amerongen

Jempy Drucker

3rd at 10"

In Diegem, one of the big classics in cyclo-cross and on a course that he appreciates a lot, Jempy Drucker has missed the victory only by little in the U23 race. The Luxemburgish rider eventually was among the leaders from the bginning, with Voss, Adams, Taramarcaza and half a dozen other riders. Close to the end, Drucker even managed to take the lead alone, with Dutch champion Van Amerongen chasing closely behind. But in the very last lap, the Fidea rider slipped away and he was passed by both Voss and Van Amerongen. The latter finally snatched the win, with 6 seconds advantage on Voss and 10 on Drucker. who nevertheless finished on the podium. A nice performance that allows him to move up into 3rd place in the Superprestige overall classification, 15 points behind Van Amerongen and 10 behind Swiss rider Taramarcaz.

28.12.2007 Azencross Loenhout (U23 GVA)

winner

Boy Van Poppel

Jempy Drucker

6th at 12"

Boy van Poppel, Paul Voss, Thijs Van Amerongen, Ondrej Bambula, Lukás Kloucek, Jempy Drucker, Julien Taramarcaz, Ramon Sinkeldam, Quentin Bertholet and Bart Verschueren were named the strongest riders at Azencross in Loenhout, the traditionnal event on December 28th. They tooke the lead in the first lap and decided the victory among them. Three Dutch riders were in this group and they managed to take advantage of their strong numerical position. After an attack from Voss against mid-race, Boy Van Poppel accelerated together with Bertholet. After a crash of the Belgian, Van Poppel found himself alone in the lead, with a very slim advantage of around 10 seconds. The former junior world champion resisted and managed to keep the small gap until the end. Jempy Drucker finished in 6th position in the sprint of the next chasers, 12 seconds down only on the winner. With another top placing, he confirms his second rank in the overall classification of the GVA Trofee, 16 points behind his team-mate Meeusen and 60 ahead of Walsleben, who is still recovering from his crash in Hofstade.

26.12.2007 World-cup series Hofstade

winner

Niels Albert

Jempy Drucker

6th at 1'40"

In Hofstade, Niels Albert has reminded to everyone that he still belongs to the U23 category, even if he lines with the elites most of the time. And he has shown that he is the master of the category, making his race even look like a better training unit. From the beginning, the young Belgian took the lead and he didn't give it away until the end, crossing the finish line solo with more than a minute advantage among the next chasers. Among these, Jempy Drucker looked very strong at the beginning, establishing himself in second position after a fast start. But in the second lap, a crash made him loose some time, and even if he managed to get back into the first chasing group with Boy Van Poppel, Julien Taramarcaz, Paul Voss, Thijs Van Amerongen and Tom Meeusen, he lacked some strengh in the end. Nevertheless, the Fidea-rider took a brillant 6th place, 1'40" late on Niels Albert, but only around 30 seconds behind second-placed Van Amerongen.

15.12.2007 GP Rouwmoer Essen (Elite GVA)

winner

Sven Nys

Jempy Drucker

16th at 2'47"

Outstanding performance of Jempy Drucker in Essen where he takes the 16th position in the common race with the elite category, against the world's best riders and only 2'47" behind a dominant Sven Nys. The leader of the UCI-rankings showed a perfekt race, leaving the likes of Boom, Stybar, Wellens and Albert behind him for good with three laps to go. A few length behind them, Jempy Drucker rode in a group with Pauwels, De Knegt and Peeters, some world class riders who took the better of him in the final part of the race. Nevertheless, Jempy finished in a good 16th position and eventually was best U23 riders, since Niels Albert signed-up for the elite-category. The Luxemburgish rider crossed the line 26 seconds ahead of his team-mate Meeusen and nearly a minute ahead of Walsleben, the dominant rider in the last few weeks. With this performance, Drucker moved up to second-place behind Meeusen in the overall rankings of the GVA series.

09.12.2007 Superprestige Veghel-Eerde (U23)

winner

Julien Taramarcaz

Jempy Drucker

4th at 51"

In the cyclo-cross that has been set up by their manager Hans Van Kasteren, the Fidea riders around Jempy Drucker were not able to play the first roles. Eventually, Julien Taramarcaz and Bart Verschueren broke away from the very beginning and were never joined again. At the very end, the Swiss rider was a little stronger and took the victory with narrow margin over the Belgian. Thijs Van Amerongen wasn't far away but he has never been able to bridge up to the leaders, thus finishing on the third place of the podium. Behind them, Jempy Drucker has chased during the whole race with his team-mates Bertholet and Bastaens and he took the fourth place at the end, 51 seconds late on the winner.

08.12.2007 World-cup Milano (U 23)

winner

Philipp Walsleben

Jempy Drucker

14th at 52"

Suspense until the very end in the world-cup of Milano, where the victory has been decided in a very narrow sprint between two Germans and a French rider. Philippe Walsleben was several milimeters ahead of Jonathan Lopez and Paul Voss, after a race dominated by these three riders. Although the leading group was somewhat big in the beginning of the race, including also Jempy Drucker, Walsleben has taken his responsibilities at mid-race and he shook the tree, with only Lopez and Voss being able to follow. If Drucker had a good start and was at the front in the beginning, he wasn't able to follow the very best at the end and finished the race in 14th position, only 52 seconds late.

02.12.2007 GP Julien Cajot Leudelange (elite - C2)

winner

Jempy Drucker

Jempy Drucker

winner

Under very difficult weather conditions, Jempy Drucker has won the international cyclo-cross in Leudelange and took revenge for the National championships 11 months. However, the concurrence was rude with defending champion Jan Soetens, but also the Commeyne, Vannoppen, Van Santvliet, the Czech riders or Johannes Sickmüller, the winner from cyclo-cross of the ACC Contern in Niederanven. It was Paul Voss who took the fastest start, soon caught by Sickmüller. But in the second lap of the race, Jempy Drucker took over the lead and didn't leave it any more until the finish. The Luxemburgish rider impressed wiht his power and technical skills and managed to stay on the bike where most of the other riders had to climb off and run. Finally, Drucker won the 34th Grand-prix Julien Cajot with 38 seconds advantage on Soetens, who had a very strong finish, and 46 on Sickmüller in third position.

25.11.2007 Superprestige Gieten (U23)

winner

Philipp Walsleben

Jempy Drucker

3rd at 41"

Once more, Philipp Walsleben has shown in Gieten that, in absence of king Albert, he is the dominant U23-rider at the moment. The German was the strongest out of a leading group containing the usual protagonists of this category: Tamaracaz, Van Amerongen, Meeusen, Voss or Drucker. After several accelerations from Walsleben, the group slowly fell apart and Jempy Drucker was also dropped with two laps to go. Only Walsleben and Van Amerongen remained in the lead, but in the last lap, the Dutch champion couldn't do anything against the second of this year's European championships. Despite a bad day and heavy legs from a very demanding training week, Jempy Drucker was able to hang onto the third place in the race and he is now fifth overall in the Superprestige series.

18.11.2007 Superprestige Asper-Gavere (U23)

winner

Philipp Walsleben

Jempy Drucker

2nd at 30"

Until two laps from the finish, Jempy Drucker looked like being able to take the win in Asper-Gavere, on a both difficult and technical course that he likes a lot. At that moment, he was in the lead of the race together with Philipp Walsleben, whereas the other riders were already late. But the German rider, recently second of the European Championships and winner of the cross in Hasselt on the day befort, was too strong this week-end and managed to drop Drucker towards the end of the race. Fortunately, the Luxemburgish riders still had enough strengh left to secure the second position, 30 seconds late on Walsleben, but another 30 seconds ahead of third placed Tamaracaz from Switzerland.

17.11.2007 Grand-prix Stad Hasselt (U23 - GVA)

winner

Philipp Walsleben

Jempy Drucker

3rd at 11"

The Grand-prix of the town of Hasselt, a young event but already member of the Gazet Van Antwerpen newspaper Trophy, saw a dramatic race with lots of suspense, the main protagonists being Philipp Walsleben, Tom Meeusen and ... Jempy Drucker. They were part of a leading group of six, together with Cant, Bertholet and Leemans. German rider Walsleben made the biggest impression and due to his accelerations, the group split up more and more. With three laps to go, Drucker was also dropped, but he managed to stay in sight of the leading duo Meeusen and Walsleben. The victory was to be decided in a sprint between the two riders and Walsleben showed out to be the fastest, while Jempy took the third place only 11 seconds late.

10.11.2007 Jaarmarktcross Niel (elite - C2)

winner

Bart Wellens

Jempy Drucker

26th at 7'09"

Just like on the Koppenberg, the second round of the GVA Trophy was held on a difficult, a very difficult course. But it wasn't because of the change of altitude as on the famous climb, but it was because of the mud that forced the riders to carry their bikes on their shoulders more often than usual. Bart Wellens likes these conditions and the reigning Belgian champion took the win after a tremendous last lap, during which he passed the Dutch National champion Lars Boom. Big favourite Sven Nys finished third ahead of Richard Groenendaal. For Jempy Drucker, the mission was of course difficult against the world's best riders on such a parcours. But the Fidea rider fought his way to a 26th place, 7 minutes late on Wellens, but only a few seconds behind his usual opponents in the U23 category like Walsleben, Meeusen or Bertholet. This means that he finishes the race as fifth U23 rider, although five minutes late on an dominant Niels Albert.

04.11.2007 European Championships in Hittnau (U23)

winner

Niels Albert

Jempy Drucker

7th at 58"

Jempy Drucker's preparation for the European cyclo-cross championships was a little bit difficult due to illness in the month of october and so he was completely satisfied with a good 7th place, behind the unbeatable Niels Albert. The Belgian rider, although a little bit sick, let the other riders behind him in the first lap already, without ever leaving them a chance to come back. Among the next chasers, Jempy Drucker was in good position for most of the race, surrounded by not less than 5 Czech riders (Kloucek, Menger, Skarnitzl, Polnicky, Bamboula), his Fidea team-mate Bertholet as well as German Walsleben. After having been in second position for a while, Jempy paid his efforts in the penultimate lap, where he was dropped by Walsleben and Kloucek in the battle for the medals, and he finally crossed the finish line in 7th place, only 58 seconds late on the winner.

01.11.2007 Koppenbergcross Oudenaarde (U23 - GVA)

winner

Tom Meeusen

Jempy Drucker

5th at 31"

The cyclo-cross of the Koppenberg surely is among the most difficult of the season, according to Jempy Drucker and most of the other riders. After a somewhat decent start, the Luxemburgish riders managed to come back to the thrid place, together with Van Amerongen and Debusschere. In the last part of the race, he wasn't able to match up with these two and took the 5th place on the line. Winner for the fourth time already this season: his team-mate Tom Meeusen who has dominated the race with nearly a minute advantage on another Fidea rider, Quentin Bertholet.

Johannes Sickmüller

Jempy Drucker

13th at 2'17"

Just like in the first race of the season, Jempy had some bad luck in the cyclo-cross of his new club ACC Contern. Despite a cold that prevented him from competition during most of the month of October, he managed to get into the leading group on the first lap, but was then thrown back beyond the 30th position by a flat tyre. After a long, long chase, Jempy finally finished in 13th position, 2 minutes and 17 seconds late on winner Johannes Sickmüller.

Tom Meeusen

Jempy Drucker

3rd at 31"

The first international espoir race of the season was a huge triumph for the Fidea team, since it took all three podium spots with Meeussen, European junior champion Bastaens and Jempy Drucker. The Luxemburgish rider had to chase for nearly all of the race after a first crash at the beginning of the race, and then a second one towards the end. Despite these two setbacks, he managed to climb onto the podium at the end, which means that the form is good at the beginning of the season.
