83rd Grand-prix François Faber - 17.09.2005 - Contern

Brief report:

Since 20 years, Pascal Triebel has made good results in the Grand-prix François Faber, without ever being able to win it. But this injustice has been repared now because the rider from LC Tétange has won the 83rd edition of the oldest Luxemburgish race, even if a victory in today's time trial can't be as prestigious as it would have been 15 years ago, when the event was still organized as stage race. There weren't much riders and much spectators on the road today, probably due to the fact that the organization has been delayed in the last minute. But Triebel's performance shouldn't been underestimated because he has beaten much younger riders than him in an exercise where you need a lot of explosive power. On a big gear, Pascal has climbed the Bärbelskraiz (1,2 km at 6,25%) with a lot of strengh and he has been 10" respectively 12" faster than the runner-ups, Philippe Herrman and Ben Gastauer. Which is promising for the cyclo-cross season that will begin soon...

Comment of the winner:

I have had a very good season so far. This is my fourth victory on the road, plus one with the mountain-bike. I am very happy to write my name into the palmares of such a prestigious race, in which I have often performed well. I am always motivated to stay on the bike. I'm riding on the road, on the mountain-bike and I am doing cyclo-cross. I guess that if there was a track, I would be riding on it too. See you tomorrow at La Charly Gaul.
