Like Kim Kirchen, Andy Schleck has also had a good easter week-end because he was part of the 17 men break that dominated the race around the german town of Köln. In this group, the riders were marked by a very fast speed since the beginning and lots of attacks, so that it broke into pieces several times. Finally, German rider David Kopp wins with a solo effort and Andy Schleck finishes in the middle of the first chasers.

Damiano Cunego attacked on the final stage of the Settimana Internationale, but he didn't succeed in dropping Pellizotti, nor Kim Kirchen nor the other GC contenders, so that all of them finished together in a group of 17 riders, more than 5 minutes behind the stage winner Aggiano and his early break companions. Franco Pellizotti wins both the overall and the points competition, whereas Kirchen finishes 7th and 3rd in those two classification. Fassa Bortolo is overall winner in the team result as extra bonus.

Kim Kirchen wins the most difficult stage of the Settimana Coppi e Bartali in the sprint in front of Pellizotti and Cunego. Despite multiple attacks on the stage finishing on top of Serramazzoni at 791m above sea level, among others from riders of Fassa Bortolo like Siutsou, in the lead for a long time with Niemec and Rujano, like Marco Velo or Nibali in the final climb, from Damiano Cunego in the last 2 kilometers, a relatively important group of 25 riders sprinted together to the finish line, where Kirchen won with several meters of advance.

On a course so flat that even the King-of-the-Mountains-points were battled out on horizontal ground, the sprinters were naturally kings. The riders recuperated a little bit from the efforts of yesterday (average on the first 3 hours: 35 km/h) and the situation was "gruppo compatto" all day. In typical Italian style, the speed increased suddenly and got faster and faster towards the end where Danilo Napolitano, penultimate on yesterday's hilly stage, took the victory on the line. Kim Kirchen finishes also in the main field.

Kim Kirchen has not been able to be part of the best group which has formed in the last climb after an impressive acceleration of Damiano Cunego. Under the impulse of the young Italian superstar, 6 riders have found themselves in the lead and would last there until the finish line: Cunego, Pellizotti, Casagrande, Mazzanti, Tiralonga und Facci, survivor of an early break and team-mate of Kim, who was in a chasing group of 15 men just behind. The 6 leaders rapidly got more than a minute advantage on the second group. On the descent towards the finish line, the gap decreased a little bit but was still 51" at the finish line. Franco Pellizotti scored double by winning the stage and by taking the lead in the overall classification, where Kim Kirchen is now 7th, a little bit less than 1 minute late.

Fassa Bortolo has won the team-time-triel with over 52 km/h of average speed. On the entirely flat 12 km around Misano, the men that are used to compose the train for Petacchi (Codol, Chicchi, Facci, Nibali, Sacchi, Siutsou, Velo) were at their best, together with our national Kim Kirchen who can write a third victory for this year in his palmares. In the overall classification, Kim is now 3rd whereas his team-mate Francesco Chicchi, second this morning, takes the lead.

10 climbs with cobblestones, among them the famous Berendries Old Kwaremont or Paterberg: a typisch flemish menu today for Andy Schleck, maybe a little bit too tough for a young neo-professional with not too much racing kilometers in his legs. Andy did not finish the race whereas the specialists like Boonen, Van Petegem, Mattan or Farazijn were up front in a 14 men break for a long time. In the end, Niko Eeckhout from Belgium takes the victory in a 7-men sprint.

Nice victory for the Fassa Bortolo team after once more intelligent race tactics with Kim Kirchen in one of the major roles. Present at the front of the bunch on the Cipressa, he managed to follow the attack of Rebellin on the Poggio. Kirchen surely was one of the strongest riders today because he got away on this mighty climb together with Rebellin, Pellizotti, Celestino, Valverde and Merckx. But the Luxemburgish rider followed the team order, all for Pettacchi, and did not collaborate in the break that was chased down by the followers less than 2 km from the finish. Frank Schleck also made a very good race at the front of the peloton in the Cipressa and the Poggio and managed to finish in the leading group of 40 riders, but without being able to match with the big ones in the sprint.

It is achieved for team CSC: Bobby Julich wins Paris-Nice 2005 overall, Jens Voigt the points classification and Frank Schleck manages to keep his 7th place overall. But before that, it was still a long way to go for the rider of Mondorf who suffered a lot today, but played his role of first-class team-mate until very last meters of the race. But the reward comes at the end with a second place in the best young rider classification as bonus. Kim Kirchen, who had nothing to win or loose overall in this last stage, spent some time at the back of the peloton, but he was ready up front when a lead group formed on the last climb of the day. In the final sprint for stage victory, he was stuck at the left hand side of the road behind Franco Pellizotti, the runner-up of Trofeo Laigueglia, and couldn't do anything against winner Alejandro Valverde.

Despite its hilly character, the Cannes stage hasn't brought any overall changes, exactly like last year. There have been attacks, like the one of Kim Kirchen in the last 500m of the col du Tanneron, but Jens Voigt, Frank Schleck and the other members of team CSC have been attentive and didn't allow anyone to escape, except an early break which delivered the stage winner, Joost Posthuma. Both of the luxemburgish riders finish in the first main group with around 60 riders.

4 riders have dominated the beginning of the stage: Jalabert, Fritsch, Hayman and Serpellini have been in the lead since km 27 with a maximum lead of 5 Minutes, but they have been caught at the foot of the last climb. Meanwhile, Kim Kirchen has been very attentive, all the time among the first 10 riders in the col du corps-de-garde and in the descent to Toulon and Frank Schleck has led the peloton in the very first slopes of the Mont Faron. But an attack of Jörg Jacksche has caused some damage to both of the riders. Under the impression of the Liberty-riders, a ten men lead group formed and the luxemburgish riders were several hectometers behind. With 3 km to go Gilberto Simoni surprised everyone by countering Gomez and flying away to victory, whereas Jens Voigt got into trouble. Fortunately for the German rider, Frank Schleck managed to come back near to the front and led him to the finish line with a gap of 1 minute. Another minute later, Kim Kirchen crossed the line together with 3 other riders.

Once again, the shortened stage with 104 km in and around the Rhone valley showed us a lot of action, with the teams of CSC and Fassa Bortolo playing the major roles. The team of Bjarne Riis first, with 50 km to go, when they managed to break the peloton in 4 different pieces and place Jens Voigt, who else, together with Frank Schleck in a small lead group containing riders like Vinokourov, Merckx or Flecha. A nice groupe causing much sorrow to the Liberty, Quick-Step and Rabobank teams who had to chase for over 20 kms to make the junction again. After an attack of the Frenchmen Jalabert and Portal, it was the turn for Fassa Bortolo to control the action with Flecha, still him, Cancellara and Bossoni who stayed clear with 6 other riders in the last 10 kilometers. The team-mates of Kim Kirchen managed to get rid of fast man Kirsipuu in the sprint and Cancellara earns double with the stage victory and the leader's jersey. One day before the mountain top finish on Mont Faron, the luxemburgish riders finish once again in the very first part of the peloton.

The "race to the sun" is still disturbed by the snow: Today's stage was shortened once again, as will be the stage of Thursday. 118 km with 2 climbs were on the menu today instead of 174 km with 5 climbs initially planned. But suspense was well present because defending champion Jörg Jaksche was on the attack. In a little break and together with some of his team-mates, he took over a minute of advance on the main field. Team CSC with Frank Schleck reacted and drove the field again up to the leaders but attacks would not cease: Voigt, Chavanel, Martinez, Flecha, Dekker or Vinokourov tried their luck, but the bunch chased them down all the time. The chaotic sprint at the end is won by Vincente Reynes, Tom Boonen is seventh and Kim Kirchen tenth. The Fassa Bortolo rider looses the KOM-jersey to Moncoutié, who passed the main climb of the day in the break with Jaksche. Frank Schleck finishes also in the first group in 24th position.

A small stage of only 46 km, after the riders spent the first 140 km in their team cars due to the weather conditions, but a tough one with an average speed of 52 km/h. The Quick-step and Rabobank teams (for Boonen and Dekker) rode very fast at the front, so that attacking was impossible except on the small climb, with 8 km to go. And Kim Kirchen rode very strongly there because he managed to get a small gap together with Alejandro Valverde and Jens Voigt. But the Quick-step team shortly after took once more possession of the pace to drive the field successfully to a new massive sprint. After his attack on the côte de Poudime, Kirchen will wear the jersey of the King of the Mountains tomorrow in the Massif Central ... if the weather allows the stage to take place.

2 riders have been brave to fight the cold and the wind in the lead during more than 100 kms, but Gonzalez de Galdeano and Sanchez have not been able to avoid a massive sprint won by Tom Boonen, after his Quick-Step team has worked in front of the bunch for the whole day. Kim Kirchen and Frank Schleck have been very attentive in the final where several crashes have divided the peloton. On the contrary to some favourites like Vinokourov and Rebellin, they didn't loose any time on Jens Voigt who loses his leader's jersey to Erik Dekker due to the intermediate sprints.
