La 15ème Charly Gaul - September 19, 2004 - Luxembourg-town
821 riders (326 in category A and 495 in category B) are present at the start in the avenue de la Liberté at 9.00 o'clock in the morning to take part in the only cyclosport-race in Luxembourg. 765 of them (303 for the A-race and 462 for the B-race) will also cross the finish line. In the B-race, former professional rider Peter Schroen wins with a few seconds advance on the French rider Kokolshka, 3rd of last year's edition, after having attacked on the last climb in the rue de Prague, 2 kilometers from the finish line (average speed of the winner 37,63 km/h). In the main race, it is a rider from Modavia who takes the victory: Evgheni Gutalov. This talented young rider lives in Belgium, hoping to get a pro contract one day. He has dropped his last opponents Vincenzo Centrone and Benn Wurth in the climb of Hostert, penultimate of the 14 difficulties, and wins with 1 minute and a half of advantage on Centrone. (average speed 36,34). Jean-Charles Martin, winner of the last year, finishes in 5th position and Julien Laidoun, professional rider of the AG2R team who has come to get some race kilometers at the Charly Gaul, finishes in 8th place.
