The big event for cyclosport racers in Luxembourg :

15th edition of the Charly GAUL cycling tour, Sunday 19.9.2004

For the 15th time in a row, the ACC Contern will organize next Sunday, September19, 2004, his traditional event for cyclosport-racers of Luxembourg and abroard, the « Charly GAUL » cycling tour, to honor the biggest Luxemburgish sportsman of the last century, winner of the Tour de France in 1958 and of the Giro d’Italia in 1956 et 1959. At the evocation of Charly Gaul, hearts of cycling fans start to beat faster and the participation at the race with his name has always been at the heights of his palmares. Riders from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Italy or Spain come every year to Luxembourg in order to be part of the 700 riders to challenge a difficult course which needs climbing abilities.

At several occasions, there have also been some famous champions to line up at the event, willing to honor the great champion and his race. In 1995, the winner of Luxembourg’s only official cyclosport race is named Bjarne Rijs, one year before the Danish rider won the Tour de France.

The « Charly Gaul » in 2004 will start once more in the town of  Luxembourg, on the same place where the Tour de France started in 1989 and where the ACC Contern also organizes its traditional criterium on the same date of September 19, 2004. Before admiring the professional riders at work, the cyclosport racers have the choice between two courses, one of 106 km (8 climbs) and one of 162 km (14 climbs) through some of the most beautiful corners of Luxembourg, on the roads where once upon a time a rider named Charly Gaul trained in order to prepare for the big events!
