GP Ostfenster/GP Comat - October 31, 2004 - Contern
Report from the races:
Grand-prix COMAT for beginner and junior riders:
Whereas there is nos suspense in the beginner's race, with Philippe Hutmacher leading from beginning to the end, the junior's race is dedided only in the last lap after a battle between Lukas Prihoda and David Claerebout. It is the tchech rider who leads from the beginning and gets a little gap on the rest of the riders. In the third lap, Prihoda has a mechanical problem and David Claerebout catches and drops him a little later. At this moment the young tchech looks a little bit tired, but he battles hard to keep Claerebout in sight. In the last lap, the rider from Alzingen falls on the slippery descent and Prihoda passes him to win the race with 26 seconds advance.
Grand-prix de la Commune de Contern for elite and U23 riders:
Start at 15.00 o'clock for the main race. It is Christian Weyland who takes the lead immediately, followed by Benoît Joachim. But in the more technical part, Gusty Bausch passes them. He is joined in front by Björn Rondelez who takes alone the lead on the second lap. He has a hundred meters of advance on Pascal Triebel and Bausch. Behind them, Belgian rider David Meys makes a strong impression. He passes the two Luxemburgish riders and chases down the leader. The rider from Vlaanderen catches Rondelez in the 4th lap, but is dropped again a little later. But David Meys doesn't give up and keeps Rondelez in sight at 50 meters in the following laps. On lap 8, the rider from Chocolat Jacques is able to accelerate and increases the gap between him and the chaser. Rondelez finally wins the race with nearly a minute of advance. The battle for third place is also very interesting between Hekele, Bausch and Triebel. For a long time, Triebel is in that position, but on the last laps, Emil Hekele puts the pressure on and takes the third place with two laps to go. Triebel finishes in 4th place and best Luxemburgish rider with 14 seconds advance on Gusty Bausch.
Comentary of Bjorn Rondelez after the race: I was stronger on the difficult parts, but Meys came back every lap on the more technical parts. He really put the pressure on me for about 40 minutes, but then he slowed down and an knew I would win. There are some races like Contern and Muhlenbach were I am always motivated and often perform well.
