Kim Kirchen winner in Diekirch. Frank Schleck 10th

Despite having been in front of the race in a little group (Kirchen, Bodrogi, Botero, Kannemeyer, Lotz, Sanchez, Satre) for most of the day and being caught with 15 km to go, Kim had enough power left to beat former world champion Oscar Freire in the sprint. Surely a great performance. After that, he is 13th in the overall, 7th in the points and 6th in the King of the Mountains classification. Frank Schleck finishes the stage in the peloton and is 14th in the overall classification. He is 6th best young rider in this Tour of Luxembourg won by another youngster, Belgian Maxime Monfort.

After they lost time in the morning stage, Kim and Frank surely had a little lack of motivation to do an outstanding performance in this time-trial. The results are good, but as Kim said:"I tried to go hard, but not too much". Maxime Monfort is the new overall leader after the race against the clock. Schleck is 16th at 1'39" and Kirchen 19th at 1'48".

Little surprise on the very tough stage around and in Luxembourg-town: no favorite wins the race, but a very promising youngster from Belgium, Maxime Monfort. Together with Thierry Marichal and Stefan Adamsson, he was in front for many kilometers. After Marichal was dropped, the two riders of Landbouwkrediet and Baroworld managed to keep their gap until the finish line. Adamsson is now new overall leader. Kim Kirchen and Frank Schleck were both handicaped by team tactics. They had a rider in a chasing group (Jacksche for CSC and Flecha for Fassa Bortolo) and therefore where stuck in the main field. But both of them showed their abilities by finishing ahead of their group in the last climb.

The two riders have finished the stage in the main field, after a race dominated by a long break of the two riders Lars Bak and Stéphane Augé. After the latter had a mechanical problem, the Danish rider managed to get alone to the finish line without being caught by the chasing peloton. For the luxemburgish riders, the most important was to finish without damage the tricky, often very nervous first stage.
