Serious things begin today on the first mountain stage and Phonak is clearly dominating. After having been present in front all day (Camenzind, Sevilla), the team manages the final climb perfectly and places 3 riders in the top 5 (Moos, Hamilton, Zülle). Team CSC performs a little bit less good with leader Basso in 7th place and Schleck in the main group.

More climbs and also more movements than yesterday in this stage. Very active today Oscar Camenzind and the Ponak troup, but also Frank Schleck who led the field in the second intermediate sprint before trying without success a break in a group of 7 with 7 km to go. Short afterwards, the Phonak riders split the peloton into pieces.

3 in a row for Rebellin
For the first time in history, one riders wins in a sole week, one after the other, the Amstel Gold Race, the Flèche Wallone and Liège-Bastogne-Liège: Davide Rebellin. Kirchen and Schleck, have worked for their teams: Frank especially for the climb of Sart-Tilman with 15 km to go and Kim for the one of Saint-Nicolas with 7 km. Both have been dropped by the favourites once their work done. Kirchen finishes 42th at 1'05" and Schleck 77th at 5'35".

Kirchen on top again

After some medium-rated results in the last races, Kim Kirchen has at last found his good legs today. In the climb of Ben-Ahin, penultimate obstacle of the day, he creates a gap on the rest of the field together with Vinokourov and spanish rider Sanchez. The three men stay away for several kilometers, but are caught just before the beginning of the mur de Huy, where Kim takes a 34th place, 1'20" behind Rebellin who makes Amstel-Flèche in a row. Frank Schleck finishes in 94th position at 9'26" at the end.

For the team.

Kim and Frank have raced for their team today. Kirchen was often among the first of the field, because the Fassa-Bortolo Team tried to control the race in prevision of a victory for Vandenbroucke. But nor Kim, nor the Belgian could follow the best riders in the end (Rebellin, Boogerd, Bettini, Di Luca, Van Petegem and Kessler in order of appearance at the finish line). Schleck finishes the race in the main field, in 66th position at 6'13" and Kirchen is 100th at 12'04".

Kirchen in the second group (48th at 4'38")
Under rain and strong crosswinds, the peloton quickly breaks into pieces on the flat countryside. Kim Kirchen is present at the front and gets a little gap with 3 other riders just before the first climb of the Kemmelberg, but they are caugth again. On the climb, a group of 24 riders gets away with a lot of favourites, but without the Luxemburgish rider, and increases its advantage continously until the finish line. Tom Boonen does everything right in the sprint.

Kirchen in the main field

Kim wasn't at his very best in this year's Ronde van Vlaanderen, finishing in 87th position. He crossed the line in the main field of 30 riders, 7'38" down on the winner Steffen Wesemann. The race was marked by the absence of the big favourites in the final, the bad luck of Kim's teammate and leader Frank Vandenbroucke and the strong performance of Benoît Joachim, among the leaders all day long.
