Summary of the race

After a very rapid beginning with an active Wim de Vos, a group of a dozen riders is in the lead. In this group, all the favourite riders are present. After an attack of world champion Erwin Verwecken, it is Bart Wellens who takes the lead after half of the laps. He increases the gap constantly on a little poursuit group with Tom Vannoppen and Erwin Verwecken who will take second place.
